On September 2, 2023, the Karen Department of Health and Welfare (KDHW) successfully hosted the graduation ceremony for another cohort of medical training in the border areas. This training program was a collaborative effort between KDHW and Hope for the World (H4W). The primary objective of this training initiative was to recruit additional healthcare professionals to bolster the human resources in primary and secondary healthcare levels. The comprehensive course spanned 11 months, encompassing both theoretical and practical components from October 2022 to September 2023. In this graduating class, 24 students successfully completed the program, representing the Bleet Dawei and Dooplaya districts.
A majority of the instructors and trainers were from H4W, a UK-based organization. The course curriculum was structured into three main segments: Part 1 covered Basic Science, Part 2 delved into Diseases & Procedures, and Part 3 focused on Public Health & Health Management. The curriculum itself was adopted from the Ethnic Health Organizations which was lead and developed by the Health System Strengthening Group (EHSSG).
During this event, a special Loyalty Service Award session was held to honor those individuals who have displayed unwavering commitment by dedicating over 5 years of service to their communities. The KDHW family extends its heartfelt gratitude to Hope for the World, the Mae Tao Clinic, and the training management team for their enduring dedication, coordination, and collaboration in securing funding, providing trainers, and supervising both the theoretical and practical aspects of this training program.
