The Capacity Building Training for Organizational Development hosted by the Karen Department of Health and Welfare (KDHW) in September 2023 was a comprehensive program designed to enhance the skills and knowledge of field staff members involved in healthcare administration and management. The training took place for 8 days, from September 18th to 25th, 2023. The training was held at the Thai-Karen border, in Pa An District. A total of 36 participants attended the training. Participants came from both district and central levels, representing various roles in healthcare administration and management, especially in crisis areas. The primary objective was to strengthen the capacity of field staff and improve the health governance system, particularly at the districts and townships level.
The training was divided into five sessions, each focusing on specific aspects of organizational development:
1. Basic Financial Management Training (September 18th-19th)
2. Basic Human Resource Management Training (September 20th-21st)
3. Office Administration Management Training (September 22nd-23rd)
4. Monitoring and Evaluation Training (September 24th)
5. Health Information System (HIS) Management Training (September 25th)
The training was delivered and facilitated by external technical consultants contrated by KDHW. It used an in-person approach to encourage interaction and knowledge retention. Various interactive learning methods were incorporated, including group discussions, real-life case studies, conceptual roleplay, and Q&A sessions. Subject matter experts contributed their insights, enriching the training content with practical examples and knowledge. Each session focused on a specific area of organizational development, such as financial management, human resource management, office administration, monitoring and evaluation, and health information system management. This comprehensive training program aimed to equip healthcare personnel with the essential skills and knowledge required to effectively manage healthcare organizations and improve healthcare services at the local level, especially in areas facing crises or challenging conditions. The interactive and practical nature of the training likely enhanced the participants’ abilities to apply what they learned in their day-to-day roles.
